‘Tama Arts’ is a cultural arts organisation that uses the arts to stimulate awareness and understanding of African culture, particularly the music and culture of Zimbabwe, through music workshops.
Using a variety of African musical instruments such as Mbira (thumb piano), Marimba/Bala (xylophone), Hosho (gourd rattles) and Ngoma/Djembe (drums). Understanding of African music is promoted; musical skills are taught and can be acquired by any audience. Improvisations communicate moods or feelings through different rhythms, movements and other art forms.
In every workshop everyone, regardless of age, gender, ability or disability, or from any background can and does become involved. Children are not only taught, they create, contribute and teach each other.
The ability and confidence in speaking publicly is also encouraged alongside performances and programmes so that children are encouraged to discuss, talk about and introduce their performance publicly.
Tama arts are available to perform and run workshops in schools, colleges, universities, theatres, galleries, arts centres, after-school clubs, and festivals. |
